Award Process

The Papal Foundation provides grants to Roman Catholic charities, religious and educational organizations serving people in developing nations around the world. The grants (see Recent Grants) support projects and programs recommended and endorsed by the Holy See.

Steps in the Application and Award Process

  1. Write a proposal that includes the name and location of the project and a brief but detailed description of the need. Include a budget, the grant amount requested and a primary contact representative for the application.

  2. The Papal Foundation does not accept requests directly. Contact your local Bishop or the Superior of your religious congregation and submit the grant request to them.

  3. With the support of the local Bishop or Superior, the proposal is then forwarded to the Apostolic Nuncio of the country in which the project is located.

  4. With the support of the Apostolic Nuncio, the request is then sent either by the Nuncio or applicant to the Office of the Assessore, Secretary of State, 00120 Vatican City State, EUROPE for consideration. It is very important to have the support of the Apostolic Nuncio.

  5. The Board of Trustees of The Papal Foundation gives final approval of all grants. Once a project is approved, the funds are distributed through the Apostolic Nuncio.

Timeline for Submitting Applications

The Office of the Assessore receives proposals throughout the year, following the process described in steps 1 to 4.
